Making a Difference

The Auxiliary, a branch of Volunteer Services, works hard to promote South County Hospital through community fundraising events, including its annual Fashion Show held at the Dunes Club in Narragansett.

Since 1976, The Auxiliary has raised more than $1.5 million for Hospital services and equipment through fundraising events, staffing the Hospital's coffee shop and gift shop, and other special projects. Some of the improvements made possible with the help of the Auxiliary include:

  • Updated laboratory equipment
  • Construction of the Emergency Department's nurses' station
  • A new wheelchair-accessible WAVE van
  • A monitoring system for the Emergency Department
  • Two televisions with DVDs for Ambulatory Care
  • New furniture for the Center for Women and Newborn Care Unit's waiting area
  • Cancer Resource rooms for patients
  • Upgrades to South County Hospital's Intensive Care Unit
  • Upgrades to Electronic Medical Records

Our Projects & Activities

Volunteer Services Departments

The Hospital’s Volunteer Services department comprises of two departments Service Volunteers and Auxiliary Volunteers.

Service Volunteers

Currently, more than 300 Service Volunteers support the Hospital by donating their time at the Patient Information Desk, in the Emergency Department, in the Same Day Surgery waiting area, and in many other locations throughout the Hospital.

Auxiliary Volunteers

Just as important, Auxiliary Volunteers are responsible for making South County Hospital even stronger through their fundraising efforts.

They aim to be a voice for the community and work with South County Health to offer the highest quality healthcare to those it serves.
