South County Health is pleased to announce that Madeleine Glidden, RN, has been honored with the prestigious DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. The award ceremony took place on May 6th, during South County Health’s annual Employee & Nurses Week.

Madeleine Glidden, known as Maddy, has been a nurse at South County Health since 2022. She was nominated by the wife of a patient. From her nominating letter (lightly edited for clarity)

"My husband was rushed to South County Health near death from Congestive Heart Failure. He was admitted to Intensive Care. The next week was a roller coaster for the family. The care received was wonderful all around, but there was one member of the staff who went above and beyond. Maddy (Madeleine) was amazing in all aspects of care of her patient and the family. Always caring, always supportive, always informative and totally pro-active. She seemed as happy as we were with every little improvement. I would usually call in the morning for an update before coming in and Maddy would fill me in.

On the 5th day, she didn’t call me back. When I arrived at the room, Maddy was at the door. As I entered, I found my husband sitting in a chair without a full O2 mask. My mouth dropped with joy. Maddy said she didn’t call me because she wanted to see my face when I got this good news. How wonderful! We spent three days waiting for a medically-necessary transfer. We had to wait for an open bed. Maddy kept us informed with updates on the process. Finally, Sunday, the transfer was happening. Maddy was with us every step of the way. We will be forever grateful for the care at South County Health, but mostly, we are grateful for the gift of Maddy. No one could deserve this award more.”

"In recognizing Madeleine Glidden with the DAISY Award, we honor her exemplary dedication to patient-centered care," stated Anitra Galmore, DNP, Vice President, and Chief Operating Officer/Chief Nursing Officer at South County Health. "The DAISY Award celebrates nurses who go above and beyond, embodying compassion, professionalism, and excellence in their practice. Maddy exemplifies these qualities wholeheartedly, and we are privileged to have her as part of our nursing team."

About the DAISY Foundation

The DAISY Foundation was established in 1999 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes. His family was awestruck by the care and compassion his nurses provided and one of the goals they set in creating a Foundation was to recognize extraordinary nurses everywhere who make an enormous difference in the lives of so many people by the super-human work they do every day.

Cinnamon rolls were a favorite of Patrick’s during his illness. The Barnes Family asks that whenever and wherever nurses smell that wonderful cinnamon aroma, they stop for a moment and think about how special they are.
